Jacob's Top 10 Favorite Movies

Hello, my fellow watchers! This is Jacob and I thought about doing a Top 10 list of my favorite movies! Just a disclaimer, some of these movies are some not everybody likes, but I like them so don't complain. Without further ado, let's dive right in.

Number 10: Horton Hears a Who!

Which one of Dr. Seuss' books have you read? The Cat in the Hat? The Grinch? The Lorax? Almost everyone I knew had at least read one book by Theodor Seuss Geisel, but unfortunately, adaptations of his work are not that satisfying...that is except for Horton Hears a Who! This film stays true to the source material, has great animation made to look like Seuss' original illustrations and has quite a great voice cast.

Surprisingly, Jim Carrey's performance as Horton can be a bit off-putting. Some of his lines seem very Jim Carrey-ish, but for what it is, this portrayal of the hundred-percent faithful elephant is...well, faithful. All of the other characters are good too, Steve Carrel does a good job as the Mayor of Whoville, Seth Rogen as Morton was a good side character and Will Arnett as Vlad was both scary and hilarious!

Horton Hears a Who, you will not hear a better full-length Seuss adaptation than this. :D

Number 9: Justice League

Audience: Booooooo!

Here me out. Now I am a big fan of DC and I really enjoy the DC Extended Universe, despite the negative reception it's giving. Here's my reasons for liking this film. This has possibly some of the best portrayals of the Justice League I've ever seen! I especially love Ben Affleck as my favorite superhero, Batman, Wonder Woman was a real badass girl and Cyborg was a lot of fun!

The one reason why I love Justice League so much, is that Aquaman finally got a movie and he is portrayed very well! This film will make sure nobody disses Aquaman again!

Justice League, a great superhero mash up and a great serving of Justice!

Number 8: Little Shop of Horrors (1986)

Now some of you who have known me for a while know that the Off-Broadway musical, Little Shop of Horrors, is one of my favorites, period. How do I like it's film adaptation? Very well done! This film calls itself “The most menacing musical comedy” and it shows. The cast do a great job portraying their characters, and the songs are top notch.

What's cool about this film is that the character Audrey was played by Ellen Greene, who originated the role in the musical. It's also worth noting that the director is none other than Yoda himself, Frank Oz, who I think did a good job directing this one.

Of course I can't talk about Little Shop of Horrors without talking about the big girl, Audrey II, voiced by the Four Tops' Levi Stubbs! Stubbs does a phenomenal job voicing this plant and the character is someone who is evil, but you can't help but love him! He's one of my favorite characters in the media!

Little Shop of Horrors, you'll scream with laughter with this romp of a horror-comedy!

Number 7: Forrest Gump

Now, one of my favorite actors is Tom Hanks and he's been in a lot of good movies. This one is no exception.

The one reason why I love this movie is because the character Hanks plays, Forrest, is a character I can relate to. I have autism and the wat Forrest is portrayed, I feel like I've been through a lot like he did and I have. You could say Forrest is an inspiration to me.

Another thing I like is the CG they use is well done. I like the effects used when Gary Sinise as Lieutenant Dan gets some new legs. Dan is possibly my favorite character that Sinise played because he was a supportive friend to Forrest and I have a lot of them.

Forrest Gump, a simple tale, but so relatable.

Number 6: The Lion King

Okay, who doesn't love The Lion King? It's one of the best films that Disney had made, and it shows!

The animation is top notch for it's time, yet it still holds up today. It's some of the best that Disney had put out.

Also who doesn't love the characters in the film? All of the characters are memorable, Simba Timon, Pumnaa, Mufasa, you all know them and you all love them.

And the songs are so memorable. My favorites are Circle of Life, Be Prepared and Hakuna Matata. All of these songs are some of the best Disney had written and possibly the best Sir Elton John had written.

The Lion King, a great film that welcomes you into the Circle of Life.

Number 5: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Another film based on a stage musical, Sweeney Todd is directed by one of my favorite directors, Tim Burton. You can definitely tell thought, this has Burton written all over it, everything is very gothic, the camera angles get a little funky and even starring Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp.

Speaking of Depp, his portrayal of Sweeney Todd is possibly the best I've seen from him. I especially love seeing him go crazy in the song, Epiphany. Sweeney shows he's a barber who'se gone bats@#^ insane. Plus, it's nice to see a Burton movie that's not scored by Danny Elfman.

Sweeney Todd, he's waiting and he wants you bleeders.

Number 4: Jurassic Park

Oh, where do I begin with this one?
First, the CGI on these dinosaurs is AMAZING! It still holds up today and I especially love that in close up shots of the dinosaurs, they use animatronics.

Second, the human characters. Steven Speilberg got some good actors to play them. My favorites include Samuel L. Jackson, who said the famous “Hold onto your butts,” and Jeff Goldblum, who proves that life always finds a way. Goldblum is easily the best human in the movie.

Jurassic Park. Need I say more?

Number 4: Godzilla (1954)

That's right, I mean the original Godzilla from Japan, released in 1954. No Matthew Brodrick, no Aaron Taylor-Johnson, not even the American-ized version, just a guy in a rubber suit tearing stuff up, and nothing more.

Now I could've chosen any other kaiju film like this onto the list but there is one reason I chose this; the fact it was made by people who experienced atom bombs in World War II. It even helps that the atom bomb that created the Big G himself was from 1944.

The cinematography in this film is really well done. It's filmed in certain angles so Godzilla would appear very large and that what Godzilla is supposed to be, a very large monstrous force of destruction.

The human characters are also well done...for the most part. Some of the characters seem cliché, but the one who stands out is Dr. Serizawa, played by Akihiko Hirata. He was the one who created the Oxygen Destroyer which he used to kill Godzilla and for what he is, he's almost sympathetic. People really want to know the Oxygen Destroyer's secret and Serizawa keeps refusing to reveal it. How the film ends is a good ending, but it can be sad if you're not prepared.

Godzilla, the one film that shows who truly is the King of the Monsters!

Number 3: Monsters, Inc

Who doesn't love Pixar films? Their movies are so wonderful, you can never forget them for the life of you.

The reason I love Monsters, Inc is quite simple. It's creativity. All of the monsters in the film have their own unique design and abilities and use them to their advantage. It really shows the imagination of the animators.

Then there's the characters. They are all memorable and played by some of the best people Pixar got out there, my favorites being Sully, voiced by John Goodman and Roz, voiced by Bob Peterson. All of the characters in the movie are some of my favorite Pixar characters, period.

Monsters, Inc, they scare, because they care.

Number 2: Transformers (2007)

Audience: Booooo!

HERE ME OUT! Yeah, I know, Micheal Bay Transformers movies are terrible and they're more style over substance...except this. This one does have some good moments from some of the human characters, especially John Turturro. Turturro is possib;y my favorite human character in the movie.

Second the way the Transformers are presented is phenomenal! The way they are made to look realistic is quite detailed and you can look at these designs and some of them you can tell which characters they're supposed to be. Yeah, I know the biggest problem with these is that they don't get enough screen time but I kinda expected that for a film that could potentially introduce newcomers to the Transformers franchise.

Transformers, this one maybe flawed, but it's enough to make you say “Roll out!”

And the number one favorite movie is...Star Wars (1977)

I am NOT calling it A New Hope! This film is all that I wanted from a movie. The special effects still hold up for it's time, the characters are memorable and it's an overall great film. What more could you get?

The characters are really great, my favorites being Han Solo and Darth Vader. Vader, especially is one of the most iconic villains in the entire film industry. How intimidating of a villain can you get than Darth Vader?

Star Wars, this is the movie you're searching for…

And that was my Top 10 Favorite Movies. Hope you enjoyed and I will see you next time!
Here's a list of my favorite movies. Enjoy! :D

Number 10: a Good movie I suppose but nothing of value to say.

Number 9: REALLY want to see this movie.

Number 8: No real opinion on it.

Number 7: Never seen that movie and am not that eager to see it.

Number 6: Awesome movie. I actually like it more as an adult then I do as a kid because as an adult I am able to analyze and recognize what makes it so good.

Number 5: Again no opinion of it.

Number 4: Feel like I am supposed to love it but just don't (maybe that is the reason I don't love it).

Number 4 (again)?: The first Godzilla movie I watched was the 1998 version. It holds a special place in my heart cause it was my first. Godzilla 2014 is also a good movie in its own way but wasn't part of my childhood so it does not have that much of an impact. I recently watched a new Godzilla anime movie on Netflix called Godzilla Monster Planet which is also good (you can watch it online if you are interested).

Number 3: Pixar films are always the best and have yet to disappoint.

Number 2: Can't seem to decide between the Micheal Bay movie and the 1984 movie. The 1984 movie oozes 80s charm and has proven to be a cornerstone of the Transformers Franchise BUT you need to already be a transformers fan in order to enjoy it. The Micheal bay movie has its own ups and downs but is meant for a wider audience plus it tries to make things realistic instead of just focusing on space opera fun.

Number 1: My favourite Star Wars movie is the Return of the Jedi. I also like Return of the Jedi and wish people would stop complaining about it.
