I just got back from seeing Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It was a really fun movie. I have some buddies of mine who haven't seen the first Jumanji, :iconmixedfan8643: and :iconvicioushedgehog95:

For both of you, Scott and Vicious, you don't have to watch the first film to enjoy this. It's a standalone sequel made for not just returning fans, but newcomers. ;)

For you, Scott, I know you like Karen Gillian, I'm happy to say, you may like her performance, as they found a way to make her badass and funny as well.

For you, Vicious, you'll like this because it is a movie about vifdeo games. There's a lot of video game references, including PS4 references and Street Fighter references and sometimes Dwayne Johnson explains what happens in a game. ;)

And for everyone who has seen the first, this film pays homage to the first, even including an homage to the star of the first movie, Robin Williams. :aww:

I may do a review of the film, but here's the short version; see it. :D

I bet you will, Scott. I do wanna tell you something unique about the first one, if you think about it, the movie finds a way to make an object the villain. I say this cause the game really has a mind of it’s own. It will move game pieces even when you accidentally roll the dice, it knows when you cheat, and it tells you if you start the game you need to finish. The game is the villain.

I gotta tell you something that really gives me goosebumps. The game can draw in coming players by making this noise.

Here’s something I thought was pretty cool. They take advantage of the film’s whole video game setting and it shows.

Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan are all only video game characters so they act like the kids who chose them, that only is pretty funny. They also have their own strengths and weaknesses so each one doesn’t feel like they’re just there.

The actors who play NPCs will repeat lines they may have already said. It’s appropriate because it’s in their programming but sometimes you can’t help but laugh at it, especially when the avatars try and have a conversation with them. :XD:

I’ll tell you what’s funny alone, the avatars are the complete opposite of what their respective counterparts are.

There's a nerdy gamer who becomes Dwayne Johnson.

There's a football player who becomes a wealking Kevin Hart.

A wallflower girl becomes Karen Gillan.

This one cracked me up. There’s a pretty girl in this who becomes Jack Black.

I gathered as such. That's pretty much the joke with these characters. :)

At first when I heard Jumanji is a video game now, I was thinking “How’d this happen?” but they explain at the beginning of the film. The board game from the first film was discovered and one kis who sees it says “Who plays board games anymore?” and starts playing a video game. Overnight, Jumanji transforms into a game cartridge. Once again, this thing has a mind of its own. It shows that the game is not just one thing, but it can evolve into what it can be to attract potential players into it’s world.

I honestly wasn't expecting the main character to fall in love with the geeky girl, but I like that pairing better. My brother doesn't really have a thing for most live action movies, but he said he loved it.

I personally liked the love letters to the first film, like the board was featured at the beginning, statues of the game pieces and that one tribute to Robin, God bless his soul.

True. I got hit with nostalgia at those moments. It's cool that the game isn't just one thing, it evolves to whatever it can be to engage players into its world. And bonus points to Karen Gillan for that awkward flirting moment.

Yeah, they found a way to make Gillan badass and funny. :giggle:

And more bonus points for Kevin Hart being freaking hilarious, my favorite line being “I don’t have the top two feet of my body!”
